How a bar in Kansas increased foot traffic with Dash ATM
Miles knows that finding success as a bar owner comes down to one thing - keep people in the building and keep them coming back.
This sounds simple, but in practice, isn’t easy. It can be a lifelong pursuit to crack this code.
Miles comes from a restaurant background. He owns a steakhouse and has found success there for the last decade by “keeping it simple, stupid”. He lives and dies by three rules:
Provide quality food at a fair price
Treat customers great
Always make things right
When he opened his first bar, there was a lot to learn. Miles quickly learned that what makes a restaurant great, doesn’t necessarily apply to a bar.
While fair prices, great service, and quality food are still important, customers are looking for more of an experience.
When Miles opened up his bar, sales weren’t as high as he was hoping for. His bar is near several others, each with their own value proposition, so this isn’t totally surprising.
To help boost sales and stand out, Miles did what other nearby bars didn’t… He doubled down on live music.
“I’ve heard from other bar owners that malfunctioning ATMs is a frustrating headache. Customers hate it. It’s almost better to have no machine, than one that regularly breaks down”
To his credit, this brought new customers into the bar, kept them there longer, and boosted his Google reviews.
While it still took time, sales climbed and to this day, his bar is thriving.
It was during this growth phase that Miles reached out to Dash ATM services about getting an ATM installed.
With all the new customers (and other things, like cover charges and pool tables getting installed), Miles was getting more requests for convenient access to cash.
It goes without saying that Miles had a MILLION things to worry about as the owner of two brick and mortar establishments. The last thing he needed was customers leaving for other nearby bars just to use an ATM.
Dash ATM suggested our free ATM placement program and agreed to do the following, for free:
Install a new ATM machine
Keep it filled with our own cash on a weekly basis
Program the machine and do all necessary maintenance
Since Miles was getting 25% of the ATM’s surcharge as a commission, this was the perfect win-win. It helped his customers, added a stream of new income, and was totally outsourced.
Miles had heard from other bar owners that ATM’s breaking down was a frustrating headache to deal with, and that customers hated walking up to an ATM only to see it was out of service (or out of cash!).
The results?
“If you’re thinking about an ATM you should chat with Dash ATM. I learned a lot and am glad I did”
The ATM did 111 withdrawals last month.
Most of these are on Fridays and Saturdays when the bar has local musicians performing.
In fact, we regularly see the ATM do over 10 withdrawals on Friday nights.
If that doesn’t mean a lot to you, it should. That’s 10 customers who aren’t walking outside (often in the rain) to a competing establishment, just to get some cash.
Miles is thrilled with the results and plans on renewing with Dash ATM when the time comes.
